Amy Allen Karr is living proof that dreams do come true!  Passionate about the creative and performing arts, she has successfully maintained a steady lifetime of working within this incredible Entertainment Industry.  Her passion began in her teens and carried her through four seasons of summer stock, where she encouraged roommate Jane Curtain (original cast SNL with Chevy Chase, "Kate and Allie", awarded two Emmies, "Coneheads") during her four-year tenure as a student at Boston University, graduating with a B.S. degree in English, Speech, and Drama.  Forty productions later, Amy was invited to join the East 15 School of Acting in London, England, where the administration created a full-scholarship for her.  Upon returning to the United States, the prestigious California Institute of the Arts offered her one of two full-ride scholarships (the other being David Hasselhoff), to earn her MFA in Theatre Arts/Acting.  Among her classmates were Ed Harris ("National Treasure", "Apollo 13", "Radio"), Amy Irving (daughter of Jules Irving/Lincoln Center and first wife of Steven Spielberg), David Irving (Director of "The Emperor's New Clothes"), Paul Reubens (PeeWee Herman), and Laraine Newman (original cast SNL).  Seven years of teaching university in Los Angeles followed.  As an actress, Amy has worked in television, film, commercials and theatre, earning her professional memberships in SAG, AFTRA, and AEA (Equity) and was nominated, and won, two coveted L.A. Drama Critics awards.

Her involvement in the Entertainment Industry continued to build on the other side of the camera, working creatively in the areas of production assistant, researcher, game show coordinator, and broadcast standards and practices for ABC, CBS, and NBC.

Ultimately, she chose to fulfill her lifelong dream of combining her gifts of acting and education, and opened the L.A. Acting Workshop in 1981 in Los Angeles.  Within six months L.A. Acting Workshop became the top professional acting school in L.A. and has maintained this position for 30 years.  In 1997 the L.A. Acting Summer Performing Arts Camp was born, providing multiple camp productions for Youth and Teens over the summer months.  In 2002, Amy developed the L.A. Backstage Tour, which provides full training and preparation for ambitious actors to audition live in Los Angeles for the top talent agents, managers, casting directors, writers and producers.

Amy's life has been one filled with vision, passion, creativity and hard work.  The great success of the L.A. Acting Workshop and the L.A. Backstage Tour are a true testimony that it is possible to "make all your dreams come true"!
